Alle psallite
(page  2)
It seems the top voice is dorian and the second voice is aeolian: both sharp the penultimate note to turn it into a "leading tone"), but the final open fifth gives an over-all assignment of dorian.

How should we name the voices? Tenor, counter (cantus), alto (medius)?

Lilypond (letter) and PDF (letter).
Lilypond (round notes) and PDF (round notes).

Shape Note Assuming that the alto/medius is a drone, it is preferable for bass also to be a drone by doubling this. Lilypond (bass doubles alto) and PDF (bass doubles alto).
An alternative bass could be krufted by doubling the counter and shift high parts down by a fifth.

I can't get LilyPond to print the "Stanza" lyrics after the "Burden".

What I'm trying to accomplish is here.

I made two attempts: In the first I used "volta"
Lilypond and PDF .

In the second I used "\context Voice = tenverse"
Lilypond and PDF.

Two simultaneous lyric events, junking this one
this poor young -- ling for whom we sing
I got the "\context Voice = tenverse" idea from here, which is also a LilyPond file of the same song. Maybe I'll just adapt that file. But shouldn't there be a way of making this work with "volta"?

In Shape Note version ("Plenary"), the first note is a half note, which might be nice to have as a "gathering note" at the outset.

Only tenor (melody) part is given.
Tenor part is in alto range (in 4-voice arrangment, alto could double tenor part).
My guess is that Peggy Seeger is an alto (and we should honor the altos by giving them the melody).

Song status chart

01
(Personnet hodie)
01 -- Which version (d dorian or e dorian)?
The barring is slightly different beginning measure 10.
06
(Dies est laeticiae)
In F Major. Basses would prefer G Major.

Earth with joy this day doth ring, Songs of praise devising;

30
(Ye Nations All)
The JF text (6/8 in G minor) corresponds to American Christmas Harp 78 "The Babe of Bethlehem" (6/4 in A minor). A minor is somewhat easier for basses to sing, but then the tenor/melody must go up to an A above the treble staff.

I'm not sure what the preferred time signature is here.

32
(Cherry Tree Carol)
32 -- Shorter Oxford Book of Carols has this in 4 parts, but set in A major (JF booklet in D major).
48
(Gloucestershire Wassail)
48 -- One version in G major has guitar chords & piano accompaniment. Another version is in D major (and the other stuff can be transposed).

Is the tiny D major version there because it is the preferred key?
